The purpose behind the practice

Less guessing.
More purpose.

Your player should know what they’re practicing, why it matters, and how to use it in a game. You should understand the plan behind their training.

  1. Understand what to work on.

Clear cues and specific feedback turn “get better” into something your child can actually practice.

  2. Connect the skill to the game.

Build technique through focused repetitions, then connect it to the decisions and situations players face on the court.

  3. Build confidence through progress.

Encouragement, honest feedback, and challenges that fit give your player a reason to keep trying—and preparation they can learn to trust.

Meet your coach

A professional shooting coach and skills trainer focused on your player.

I’m Matt Foley, a Frederick native who set several shooting records at Thomas Johnson High School. Today, I bring that same attention to technique and preparation to the players I coach.

Over the past five years, I’ve worked with hundreds of kids and developed my own training systems. I adapt my coaching to each player’s size, strengths, experience, and way of learning—so the instruction makes sense and the work fits their needs.

The goal is progress your child can bring into a game: more consistent skills, better decisions, and the confidence to trust their preparation. As a parent, you’ll know what we’re working on, why it matters, and how it supports your player’s development.

A clear next step

  1. Choose your training.

Find the class or personal session that fits your player’s goals.

  2. Tell me about your player.

Share their age, experience, and what they’d like to improve.

  3. Confirm the next step.

Complete the class payment steps or coordinate your personal session with me.

Before you get started

Good questions.
Clear answers.

You don’t need to have your player’s whole development plan figured out. Start with their grade, experience, and one thing they’d like to improve.

Ask Coach Matt
Does my child need to be an experienced player?

Personal training is available for grades 1–12 across skill levels. Classes have their own grade and experience requirements. Junior Skills & Shot Lab focuses on fundamentals for grades 1–3. If you’re unsure about fit, email me with your player’s grade and experience.

Should I choose a class or personal training?

A class gives your player a scheduled program with a specific focus. Individual training provides dedicated attention to their priorities. Matched duos add a training partner, while small-group sessions let friends or teammates work together.

Where does training take place?

Frederick Basketball programs and sessions with Coach Matt take place at Zone 24 in Frederick, Maryland. Your registration or session details will include the arrival information you need.

What happens after I register or request training?

For a scheduled class, use its registration button, submit your parent and player details, then complete payment through Square. Submitting a form alone does not confirm a paid spot. For individual, duo, or group training, I’ll coordinate scheduling and next steps with you after your request.

How quickly will my player improve?

Every player develops differently. My focus is clear feedback, purposeful practice, and skills they can keep building. Progress depends on their starting point, consistency, and practice between sessions.
